Story thus far:
[note, I just copied and pasted these from the PMs, so... yeah]
It was hard to imagine this world could become a place saturated with ungodly beings and lost hope. Here Callie stood, proud of her latest accomplishment as an explorer of ancient ruins. The world around her was bright and nobody had suspected a thing of what was to come. True, there were myths about that ancient artifact, and that disturbing it would lead to chaos. However, such myths were always found to be folly, so nobody expected anything to come into fruition. Without any concern, the explorer took the orb and left with her comrades. Imagine the surprise on Callie's face when she and her partner awoke the next morning to see that there was no sun to greet them. Looking outside of the window, these wo were greeted by a world that had sunk into darkness with creatures of despicable origin coming to life from the darkest corners of their surroundings. "Surely we are dreaming," Callie merely whispered with a rock in her throat. Then, the sounds of banging were heard from the room closest to theirs. The one that housed their friends. "Tell me we're dreaming," this female insisted of her lover. There was no way the myth could be true.
Shelia was confused and terrified. It was dark. There were banging noises near her. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. Her head felt like it was spinning. She opened her eyes again and slowly got up. She wondered. Was this a terrible dream or nightmare? Suddenly, he appeared and yelled, "KILL! SMASH! DIE! DEMON DIE! DIE!" Sheila stared. The yells belonged to a man who was yelling incoherently in the darkness and was attempting to kill her. She recognised him as one of the explorers who was searching the ancient ruins. whatever he spoke didn't make any sense. A fist smashed into her face. She dodged the rest of his punches and started to run away. Sheila was terrified. How could this be happening? She recalled the moment they had found an artifact... People had touched it. some hadn't. Was she one who had touched it? if so... was this why this madness was happening? Why was her colleague trying to murder her? The myth was just a myth, right? so... why this? Was it due to their "exploration?" Sheila didn't know. she frantically looked for an exit or a weapon that she could use to defend herself with. How was she to stop this? Hopefully she wasn't the only one unaffected.
“Davis! It is me, Sheila! Stop! Don’t do this!” Sheila yelled, trying to see if she could make him see any kind of sense. There was no reaction. The man looked maniacal. His normally neat brown hair was unkempt and messy. His blue eyes shone with some unknown madness . He suddenly howled like a fierce and rabid wolf. He growled and lunged at her. Sheila looked back and hastily jumped out of the way. She gasped. She had been nearly caught off guard. She couldn’t be complacent. No, not in this situation. As she ran, Sheila had many thoughts on her mind.
So, she wondered: How long would this cruel situation and madness persist? how many people were affected? Her former colleague… was he going to be like this forever? Sheila kept running. She had to get away. She wanted to live. She wanted this madness to end. Sheila knew that the madness would never end so easily and quickly , however. She knew that it would last until a solution was found. perhaps there was a way to incapacitate her former friend...? she wondered as she kept running and dodging. He was persistent. He kept chasing her and ranted repeatedly about death, demons, doom, gloom, despair and dark… Sheila kept running and thought frantically. Was this what the artefact was about? Was it something that brought all negative things to the world? If so, how could she halt this? How could she make that man sane again?
This male hadn't the slightest clue of what to think about this situation. It was far too surreal to be true, but he knew he was not dreaming and the darkness upon their world was no misconception: they truly had descended into darkness, and one of their comrades had fallen victim to it. Rather than staying in this room where it was safe (for now), he answered Sheila's yelling by leaving the room with Callie and approaching hers. Of course, Callie was just as uncomfortable as he was with the prospects of approaching a madly insane Davis, but Sheila clearly was in need of help. "Sheila? Davis?" Lamar called into the room after knocking on its door a few times. He waited a few moments and was ready to open the door, but his partner had already opened the door and was walking in.
"Davis! What are you doing?!" Callie asked, still having yet to wrap her head around the idea that the myth was true. The artifact had brought darkness upon the world and brought insanity to its inhabitants. Except for those who were touched by the light in the darkness. This female rushed in with this information fresh in her mind and pushed toward the enraged male, with Lamar close behind and shutting the door so that their noise wouldn't disturb too many other (possibly insane) residents.
Upon seeing two people, two other persons who seemed very rational like her , Sheila took a deep breath and yelled, "Help! I tried yelling to him to try and see if he would respond sanely but all Davis yelled about are..." Sheila took a breath and continued, " death, despair , dying and other negative things! We need to stop him or get out of here!" Sheila avoided speaking about the worst alternative. She didn't even want to think of anyone dying. Sheila then ran toward Callie and Lamar. "Kill! Murder! Evil! Die! Smite! Crush! Torture! Slay! Malice! Despair! Demon! Die! Bleed! Blood! Monsters! Anguish!" Davis yelled, looking like some feral beast. Sheila yelled, "Davis! You have children! You have a wife! You can’t do this! You showed the photo to me! Wake up!" Davis continued to yell incoherently. his words were in a nonsensical order and he looked very crazed.
Explorers have roamed the planet for centuries upon centuries, trying to discover ancient artifacts that could alter humanity for the better or the worse. Whether it was an item that could reveal the horrors of the past, or a relic that would explain the perseverence of an entire race, explorers sought these items out. However, with all artifacts found, a myth surrounded it. Usually such a myth would warn the explorer that consequences would result from disturbing the ancient relic, but never had the myths any substance. Until now.
Callie, Lamar, Sheila, Davis, and other explorers had together sought out an ancient item called the Moon Stone. It was believed that this object offered an explanation for how creatures survived in the darkness of caves, burrows, and other places where light didn't belong. More importantly, it would explain how such creatures were not driven into madness. The myth, however, suggested that if the moon stone is interacted with, the sun will not rise the next morning and the world will descend into darkness with only the moon offering some form of light. It stated that whoever interacted with the stone would be the light in the darkness, and that this person would be responsible for restoring order to the world.
Such myths were always folly, so Callie had given it no consideration. After hours turned to days, to weeks, to months, the stone was found. Callie and her comrades had finally found the moon stone. Without concern of the possible consequence, the female picked up the moon stone and placed it into a secure container. It was going to a museum where all of the world's most valuable artifacts rested. She and her friends, however, would need some rest before making the journey back to the museum. So after giving Sheila a pat on the shoulder for her hard work, Callie took Lamar's hand and the group retired at the local inn.
Now it made sense why Sheila wasn't insane. Just as Callie suspected, anyone touched by the light in the darkness would maintain healthy sanity for several days. Hence why Davis had fallen into insanity. "Give me a minute. I think I know what I need to do about Davis," she spoke, swallowing her fears and stepping toward Davis. He looked as though he had gone completely primal, like a savage beast ready to end the lives of anyone who made any attempt to impede his actions. Her heart raced, but Callie doubted they had any other option except to follow the instructions of the myth... if it could be called a myth anymore, seeing as it had come true. Once Callie had just a few yards between herself and Davis, she stopped her approach.
"Davis, it's me, Callie," she spoke with a wavered voice. Once again, trying to look past his savage behavior, she took a breath and waited for his response. She was ready if he tried to lunge forward, or attack. But if she could de-escalate him into putting his own guard down, that would be prefered. Either way, her plan was to embrace him. So if he attacked, she would take the blows and embrace him until his sanity was restored.
Hearing what Callie said, Sheila nodded and gulped. Beads of sweat ran down her forehead. She wiped them off and quickly stood near Lamar . She watched fearfully as Callie tried to speak rationally to the seemingly-deranged and regressive Davis. Davis didn't seem to take notice of Callie's words. He let out a growling sound. He sounded like a cross between an angry, madman and a wild bear. He licked his lips, looking like he wanted to devour anything or anyone in his way. He yelled more incoherent words, "Destruction! Darkness reigns! Destroy! Die! Rip! Demon! Tear! Kill! Kill! gone! Die! BEGONE! Cry! Demon! Hate! Loneliness! Death! Sadness! Dark! Falling into the Abyss! Darkness! Evil! Die! kill! Murder! AHAHAHAHAHA! End ! SMASH!" He then attempted to hit Callie. His focus wasn't on Sheila anymore. Sheila didn’t think that Davis would even start seeing sense any time soon. So, she yelled, "Callie! Please stay away from him! He is irrational! He could kill you!" Sheila was aghast and covered her mouth with her hands. "Pain! DEATH! DEMONS! DIE!” Davis screamed as he continued his deranged assault. He then pulled at his hair and screamed incoherently. The pupils and the irises of his eyes moved wildly. He then attempted to hit Callie again.
She managed to notice him raise his fist, but she wasn't fast enough to avoid it completely. The punch grazed her cheek and hit her ear, leaving a slight ring and throbbing pain. Callie quelled the urge to yip from the surprise and instead continued watching him carefully, trying to be more prepared for the next blow. He continued to say words that had no apparent meaning behind them other than the dark attributes they possessed, and it made it both hard to focus and to maintain some level of hope in seeing Davis return to normal. After waiting for a few more moments, only shaking her head once when her friend gave the suggestion to leave him, the next blow came. Callie managed to avoid this one, ducking under the fist that had been thrown forward, and she closed the gap that separated them. She threw her arms open and wrapped them around the male, immediately pleading "come on, Davis! Come back to us!"
To say that he wasn't concerned for Callie would be an understatement. The moment the first punch was thrown, he was tempted to move forward and help her. But it was clear Callie had some sort of plan in mind, and she knew better than he about the myth that surrounded that stone. "Leave him, Callie," he insisted alongside Sheila, "he's far too dangerous!"
Suddenly, it happened. Davis was silent and he stiffened as Callie hugged him. Davis's eyes stopped moving wildly and he blinked rapidly. He then started to fall to his knees and he gasped. Sheila observed the event and she noted that it seemed like lucidity was suddenly returning to Davis. It seemed like the insanity had left him. why and how? what did Callie do that she didn't'? Sheila wondered. "Ugh, I... what ...what happened? "Davis muttered and then noted that Callie was hugging him. "Callie, what are you doing? What was I doing? I... Ow..." He felt like rubbing his temples. His head was throbbing. His whole body felt exhausted. what on earth had happened to him? "So... he is no longer a maniac?" Sheila asked tremulously...
A Light in the Darkness: [Note: The RP would be gruesome in detail and our characters would rarely be graced with fortune]. In a fantasy world (aka, there may be elves, demons, vampires, angels, etc.), a group of friends are exploring some ruins. They touch an artifact and it breaks, causing the sun to no longer rise. Everyone loses their sanity in this darkness except for the person who had touched the artifact. This person is able to restore sanity to others just by their touch, so they travel with their friends to try and find a way to restore light to the world. During their travels, they get into deadly fights with others who have lost their sanity. Some may have lost their minds and gone completely primal. The end goal is to restore light to the world, but if we want it to continue, perhaps another disaster comes or maybe they just never do find the solution. (Again I'm just spouting ideas, they should probably be ironed out before we use them. Also if you prefer it to not have the dark theme, that's fine, but I have a hankering for something dark, tragic, and atmospheric)
