Home is behind, the world ahead, and there are many paths to tread. Through shadow; to the edge of the night. Until the stars are all alight. Mist and shadow, cloud and shade. All shall fade. All shall fade.

Abandonment, murder, death, rejection. There are many reasons for children to be taken from things they knew and loved. When they lose everything they once had, they become homeless. Outcasted by society, unwanted. It is then that they venture to New Moon Orphanage. When they are alone, unloved, and desperate. Here at this orphanage, children are brought at any age and stay until they are adopted out or turn eighteen. On the outside, the building looks loving and friendly. But even the nicest of places hold the darkest of secrets. New Moon Orphanage is run by the over-powering Ms. Moons, a woman orphans have learned to never cross. Abusive towards the orphans, strict and uncaring; Ms. Moons runs the establishment on a short leash. Equipped with harsh staff, she controls her domain with an iron fist. The orphans fear and respect her, though all hate her. There are deeper secrets within the confines of this historic building. When a life is on the line, when an orphan is faced with the ultimate decision to stay and suffer something far greater than Ms. Moons or run, which will they choose? Will they escape from this hell, known as New Moon Orphanage?

What ELSE you need to know

Orphans are of any age, but are limited to 17 years of age. At age 18, the orphans are shipped off to the military. The orphans are unaware of this fate, but it is inevitable. This will eventually be the reason our poor orphans escape. Orphans are given decent clothing and their rooms are small. They are given regular meals and are on a strict schedule. Meals are strictly monitored and no one is allowed in the hallway unless moving to another activity. Each is schooled in a one room schoolhouse, on the backside of the orphanage. Boys and girls mingle only during school, lunch or play hour. No other times are permitted.

Adopting Parents are not allowed to see the children, except in the interview room, to decide which child is best suited for them. Adopting parents don’t need to be used often and can be disposed of after adopting a child. So while you make a kid, please use an adult to come in so they can adopt one of the other orphans. Even if names are not used, we can have random orphans that go off and are adopted.

Staff are strict and are not nice to the children. They have some sort of threatening device, like a whip or a riding crop. A sword, a lasso, anything can be used. They are paid pretty well by the supervisor and do not discuss their matters with anyone outside the orphanage. They live inside the orphanage with the kids, in nice rooms, while Ms. Moons lives in her own cottage close by.

Orphanage funding: When adoptive parents take a child, they are required to pay a set amount of money to cover some expenses. The military, once the children are 18, take them and turn them into killing machines. This is why the kids are abused at the orphanage, to make their wills too weak to fight their training in the military. The military covers the orphanage’s expenses, in exchange for these children. Another way of income for Ms. Moons (who pockets all the extra money), is to sell some of the children in her own brothels. She chooses specific children to serve in these ‘houses’, and exposes them to all sorts of terrors.

General

• I, Nightmare, am the owner of this thread and will dictate what happens here. My Mods and helpers are xxLostChildrenxx and @minokawa. Please respect them, especially if they ask you to do something.

• Follow the general TLC rules. This means knowing what the ToS for this entire website is  

• Respect the others in the role play. Be that myself or some random person in the OOC.  

• Please, no God-modding or Auto-hitting. For all intents and purposes, everyone's characters are human and, thus, mortal. You can die. Granted, this is a action scenario, so you can fight and do whatever you want but you can't dodge everything. In a fight, your character will wear down. Think about things logically, run it by the person in question if you have to or ask myself for help. No killing characters without permission from the person as well as myself. Real physics applies. Besides, they're orphans. YOUNG orphans. They aren't that strong...

• This role play will use real pictures only. Please be from ages 12-17. End of story. Each age will only use TWO characters for it. For example, there will only be TWO seventeen year olds. That's it. We don’t want the whole RP based off the same age.

• I do NOT want to see a bunch of celebrities running around. 

• There is the possibility of romance present in this plot and the role play is open to any kind, be it yaoi, yuri, typical heterosexual, or some crazy combination of it all. However, we will keep this PG-17. If the clothes start flying, time skip and we don't don't want to know how long it took. 

• It's not required, but as a common courtesy please read everyone's post so you don't miss out on something potentially important and look like an ass for being a billion miles away when someone's actually next to you 

• Do not spam the RP. That means if only one other person is on besides you, do not post a billion times and take up one or more pages with only the two of you. It's one of the leading causes of RP death and it's annoying to sift through

Literacy and Posting

• This is a semi literate thread. We expect to see a minimum of two paragraphs. It's not terribly difficult to come up with about sixteen sentences. That's only eight sentences a paragraph.  

• We expect that people understand things like spell check and basic grammar. That means spell out your numbers, no abbreviations (except where appropriate like a name ending in Jr. or whatever else), and absolutely no text talk.  On a side note to this: There is a difference from accidental misspellings and dialect for a character's speech. Just remember to be consistent so we can pick up what's being said or write a translation at the bottom of your post if you think it's needed. I will explain the time period in the next bullet. So hold your horses. 

• This time period is the PAST. I'm thinking more of ancient Japan.  There are no guns, if you give your character a gun, i will dismember you. You will use swords or other weapons you have to use muscle to use. And even then, these are orphans. They dont have these items until later. Boats are limited to more like canoes, and there are not motor vehicles. Orphans have to be transferred one way or another. horses and carriages are allowed, but we have NO cars. We also do NOT have computers and such. No major 'technology'.

• No outrageous combat Knowledge. They are orphans, and haven't gotten much experience in the outside world. They're quite young. Also, they do not KNOW that 18 year olds are shipped off to the military. This will be the REASON the orphans want to leave WHEN they find out. They do NOT already know. 

• Posting frequency should be at least once a week. School, work and other responsibilities from real life come first but we would still like to see this role play move forward. If you are going to be gone for an extended period of time, please send myself a message to let us know. If something comes up and you are force to leave the role play, again, let us know. It helps us to know where we stand.

• Formatting is required. Our main focus is the story, not bright colors and thousands of song lyrics that always seem to annoy people until they figure out what song it's from. I would like to see, at least, your character's name and picture but don't go over the top. Colors should be clear, nothing too bright or light that will hurt people's eyes.  I love layouts, so please use one. Nothing too fancy if you dont want to, but use something nice.

• Please use "quotations" for speech, italics for thought and regular text for narration. No *he did this* allowed around here. Third person only.

Applying and Profiles

• First, check the character list below to see what roles are available. There are only eight slots for orphans open. Staff member spots are a total of four.

• Next, you will need to fill out a reserve skeleton. That will be sent to me.

• Please then fill out a profile skeleton for us to tack into the profile thread

• Everyone else not included in the ‘reserved’ are NPCs. Anyone can play them, though you cannot play another person’s character. 

• Last but never least, this is all for fun.

The Young Orphan

The Youngest child of the group. Age from 10-13. Though young, this orphan is intelligent and street-smart. he is a quick-thinker, and frisky for such a young boy.

The Boy Toy

This boy is used by Ms. Moons in her brothel. Used by staff members and anyone willing to pay a high price, he is used as a...well....toy. He is very secluded because of this, and holds a deeply embedded grudge against the orphanage.

The Defiant Tough Guy

The defiant boy that refuses to comply with Ms. Moons' orders. He is good at fighting, though he doesn't have much experience. He fights with other orphans, but he is not a perfect fighter. He holds an aura of toughness around him, but he does have a sweet side.

The Quiet Observationist

This boy sits back and watches the others around him. He does not speak much, rather listens and observes. He is good a reading people, and is a very helpful person.


The Mother Hen

This female cares a lot about others. She is a motherly figure, and is often regarded as 'mother' or 'mom', or even 'mommy', by the younger children. She is caring and sweet, and takes care of the younger children as well as the older ones. She is the first to give up food or clothing for another orphan, and protects many from Ms. Moons' or other staff member's wrath.

The Servant

Abandoned at a younger age, this girl was once one of the orphans. She never acted out of line, simply went about what she was told to do. After years of living in the orphanage, this girl was noticed by Ms. Moons. Something about this girl sparked Ms. Moons' interested...bad interest. Instead of putting her in the brothel, Ms. Moons decided to force the girl into servanthood. She cleans and does all the chores in the orphange daily, and keeps orphan's rooms in top shape. She no longer sleeps with the other orphans, she has an attic room.


The Pretty Plaything

This girl is like the Boy Toy. Used in the brothel, this girl knows more about sex than most adults. Ms. Moons loves this girl only because she brings in so much money for her. She is not treated any better than the rest of the orphans, but she is secluded from them.


The Princess

The perfect orphan. Ms. Moons' favorite child. She is treated very well. She has her own bedroom, and is given more clothing and food than the other orphans. Ms. Moons treats her more like a pet dog, than as a child. Because this girl sucks up to the supervisor, Ms. Moons gives her a lot more than the others. Of course, this makes the girl more cocky than the others, though she can use Ms. Moons as an advantage to help the group escape.


The Bitchy Boss

Ms. Moons. Evil and uncaring, she only runs this orphanage because of how well it pays. She has others do all the work for her, but she still comes around to beat the kids into shape. She hates these 'brats' and loves to ship them off to the military when they're eighteen. Happily, there aren't many orphans that actually get adopted, and thankfully none have escaped. So, every orphan that comes in turns a profit in the end, either as a prostitue or given to the military.

The Abusive Guard

He is very unloving, uncaring, and almost demonic. He loves attacking the orphans, and enjoys his job. He is an ex-military man, though no one knows why he was discharged. Orphans have spread some pretty good rumors about him, though...

The Caring Charge

The charge of the girl's dorm is a little different than the other staff members. She's very strict, and is perceived as uncaring. However, she cares more than the other staff members do. She is very pretty and hails from Japan. She works as the girl's charge as well as the one who helps Moons take some orphans to the dungeon. This woman holds a lot more secrets than most give her credit for. Most orphans like her.

The Sinister School Teacher


This school teacher is very smart. He knows more about the world than a lot of the staff members. He is very harsh when it comes to lateness, and he demands a lot from the orphans. That is not to say, however, that he is solely evil. This teacher has some redeeming aspects of himself. Some orphans like him, some do not.

The Ghost Whisperer

Not much needs explaining with this one. This girl is a medium for ghosts. She is not an orphan, nor does she live in the orphange. She lives in a village and is very withdrawn from the world. She lives with her father in a large home. There are many dark secrets within.

The Bathhouse Owner

This man owns the bathhouse in a village further away from the orphanage. He and his wife mantain the bathhouse and are a very popular spot for people to come and have vacation time. He was given the bathhouse after his parents died.

The Bathhouse Wife

Married to the bathhouse owner, this woman cooks and cleans the bathhouse for her husband. They are a loving couple and very young. The wife is beautiful and very friendly to everyone who comes in.

The Wanderer

This man is related to the Boy Toy, though he was told his brother was dead by survivors of his village. He has been wandering ever since his parents died in a military attack. He lives in different villages, and wanders around searching. For what? He only knows. He can be nice, but he has an anger-streak when needed.
