Frequently Asked Questions
What class or race do I pick?
Well, the bettter question is, what do you LIKE? You like an elf? Be an elf! Yes, all races are a bit different, but be who you want to be! As far as classes, there are perks to each one. It depends on what you like. Ranged, melee, tank, support, etc. See the LOTRO Guide for more information on classes.
I signed up and made a character, now what?
You play! Enter Middle Earth and allow your adventure to begin!
What happens after the introduction?
After you get through the introduction, you should be escorted to the playing area. Once you complete the Introduction quests, you will be shown to an NPC who will give you your prologue quest. Welcome to the playing aspect to the game!
My items wore down and were destroyed, are they gone forever?
They're never gone forever, so don't worry! Yes, your items in game will begin to wear down. Please remember to repair often. A trick I use is whenever I go sell, I go repair. If your items do lose all durability and are destroyed, no, they're not gone forever. You don't need to go find new items. you simply repair them, and they'll be fine again.
I went down a cliff and died, what happened?
Well, the better question is, why are you cliff diving? Yes, even in game, if you jump off a high cliff, you will break your legs. It slows your run (or walk) speed for a set amount of time (depending on how high you jumped). If you jumped from a really high cliff and didn't hug the side, and went straight down like a crazy person, yeah, you probably died. But, really, what were you expecting? If you did that maneuver in real life, you'd be dead too! At least in game you respawn!
I'm having gaming difficulties, what do I do?
You cry. No, kidding. What you can do is try asking another kin member for help, depending on your problem. Sometimes the fix is simply moving your camera around. Sometimes, adjusting your audio or visual settings does the trick. But, in the event it's something a bit more complicated, feel free to send a message to the LOTRO support team. I can't do everything to fix your game. I don't know EVERYTHING there is to know about LOTRO. Only the support team does. They can help so much more than I.
I lag a lot, should I just stop playing?
If it upsets you that much, maybe so. But, in all honesty, you can fix a lot of the lag. Maybe your computer is a bit older or doesn't have enough power to support it. So, a fix is to simply lower your graphic settings. I play on High and am fine. However, some people play on low or very low because their computer can only handle that. Any setting is fine. It plays the same, you just lose some details and graphic visuals. In some areas, though, that are heavily populated, expect lag. Like Bree-Town. Expect. Lag. Like. No. Tomorrow.
What items should I keep from my bags?
Anything you want. I can't tell you what to do. But, if you want a clean bag, keep only what you will use. Keep at least a stack of morale potions, power potions, maybe some vocation items, if you'd like. I keep those in my vault. I keep any new weapons that I'm about to level up to use. I keep only important buffs I will use during that round of playing. I keep anything with me that I will use often. Anything that will not be used daily, goes in my valut.
Does my stuff break forever once my items become red?
Not at all. Yes, it does break. Yes, you cannot use it and you're naked until you repair, but you do not lose it for good. Simply go to a supplier or any shop that will repair, and repair. Yes, it does cost money. But, this is why I sell all unwanted items first, then repair every time I go to sell.
I need better vocation tools. Where can I get them?
The auction house is the first place you can go. Here, you can buy better vocation items, that will be a three-in-one, where you don't have to switch between every vocation tool every time. Or, you can ask for it on your wish list. A vocationer can make one for you.
F.T.P. Vs. V.I.P. Vs. Premium?
The most basic answer I can give is that Free to play is just that, free to play. You don't have to spend money, and you can technically go pretty far like this. However, your unlocked quests will only be outside the Lone Lands. Premium means you've bought turbine points with your own money, and you get a few extra perks. V.I.P. you get a lot of perks, because you've spent a lot of freaking money to get here. You get more areas unlocked, more character slots, and TP every month, among other things.
What do I buy in the LOTRO Store?
Anything you wish. You can buy cosmetics, quest packs, premium wallet, the possibilities are bound only by the number of turbine points you have.
How can I get TP fast?
Deed! That will be the fastest way for you to get turbine points. If you need help deeding, ask for it in our help section. We'd be happy to help.
